Overview

Kenya & Tanzania Combined Safari offers the best of both countries on a one safari. This is a favored wildlife safari program which begins in Nairobi, Kenya and ends in Arusha, Tanzania. The safari takes you to the wildlife rich and famous parks of Kenya and the Northern Circuit Parks of Tanzania. Enjoy visits to Kenya’s top parks, Masai Mara and Amboseli both renowned for their astounding beauty and breathtaking wildlife presence. In Tanzania, visits to Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro will bring out the best sights on your journey.

The safari is ideal for couples, families and groups wanting to experience the best of East Africa on a 12 Day safari through the best of the parks for ultimate cultural, wildlife and experiential rewards with ideal stays close to the wildlife action.

Day to Day Itinerary

DAY 1: Nairobi

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met, assisted and transferred by your Driver Guide to Southern Sun Mayfair Hotel for overnight.

Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya which is situated at 1,670 meters above sea level. A modern developing city of modern contrasts, Nairobi is a rich mixture of different ethnic groups, boasting near perfect climate all year round.

DAY 2: Masai Mara National Reserve

0800hrs: After breakfast depart Nairobi and descend the Rift valley making a stop at the escarpment for magnificent views of the Rift valley floor. Proceed to the Masai Mara National Reserve and arrive in time for lunch at the ILkeliani Camp. Enjoy a late afternoon game drive thereafter returning to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Nestled in a river glade in the Masai Mara Reserve, the area is a favorite for elephants coming to drink from the Talek River. The camp has been designed to combine the old traditional safari style with a modern and fresh feel. Ilkeliani Camp offers only 17 tents and each commanding views of the plains and the wildlife action throughout the day. It is a permanent camp designed along ecofriendly principles. The ethos leave a minimum foot print on nature.

DAY 3: Masai Mara National Reserve

Today we have the option of exploring the reserve on a full day game viewing drive with lunch taken as picnic or on an early morning and afternoon game viewing drive with all meals at the camp.

Wildlife is abundant in the area and game-viewing is good any time of the year. Large numbers of other plains game including zebra, different species of antelopes, giraffe and warthog, there are many prides of lions, which follow the migrating herds, but some are resident in the area all the year round. The Mara is a perfect kingdom for these lions, the most powerful of hunters, who dominate the grasslands. Cheetahs, spotted and striped hyena, and smaller predators including all three types of jackal also roam the Mara area. Leopard tend to be solitary, but territorial and are regularly spotted in daytime foraging potential prey.

DAY 4: Masai Mara National Reserve

0600hrs: Enjoy an early morning cup of Kenyan coffee or tea before departing the camp for an early morning game drive and returning later for a full breakfast. Mid-morning is spent at leisure before embarking on your last game drive this afternoon and returning to our camp for a sundowner, candle-lit dinner and overnight at the Ilkeliani Camp.

DAY 5: Rift Valley – Lake Naivasha

0800hrs: After breakfast drive to the Rift Valley region arriving at the shores of Lake Naivasha in time for lunch at the Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge.An optional boat trip can be enjoyed in the afternoon. Enjoy a Sundowner, Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in the Kenya section of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, and is located northwest of Nairobi with the town of Naivasha on its north eastern shore. At 6,200 ft above sea level, the lake is the highest point in the Kenyan rift, and is set in a complex geological combination of volcanic rocks and sedimentary deposits from much larger Pleistocene era lake. The main activity is acclimatization on your safari or an optional boat ride on the lake and sundowner at the lodge.

DAY 6: Amboseli National Park

0800hrs:After breakfast at the hotel, you will be picked up and driven to Amboseli National Park arriving in time for lunch at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge. A late afternoon game drive is conducted in the late afternoon returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Amboseli National Park is home to thousands of elephants, made popular by natural history documentaries such as 'Echo of the elephants' and is a beautiful park with far reaching plains, salt lake and the magnificent backdrop of Kilimanjaro and the easily approachable wildlife.

DAY 7: Amboseli National Park

0600hrs:An early morning game drive and afternoon game drive will be enjoyed in the Amboseli National Park. Mid-Morning spent visiting an authentic Maasai Village that we support through our non-profit, Friends of Woni Kenya International, INC. All meals dinner and overnight at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge

DAY 8: Lake Manyara National Park

0700hrs:Depart Amboseli after breakfast with picnic lunches and drive to Namanga Border where you will go through immigration formalities and change into Tanzania safari vehicles, proceed to Lake Manyara National Park for an afternoon game drive thereafter proceed to Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Lake Manyara National Park is a scenic gem with compact game-viewing circuit through Manyara offers a virtual microcosm of the Tanzanian safari experience.

DAY 9: Serengeti National Park

0730hrs:After breakfast depart and drive to the legendary Serengeti National Park arriving in time for lunch at the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge. Enjoy an afternoon game drive and thereafter return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 10: Serengeti National Park

Today you will have the option of exploring Serengeti on two game viewing drives or leave with picnic lunch for a full day game drive depending on where the “great herds” are. The vast and dramatic Serengeti of the endlessly rolling savannah plains, is Tanzania’s first-established, largest and famous park wherein tens of thousands of hoofed animals roam in a constant and unremitting search for the fresh grasslands upon which their survival depends.

DAY 11: Ngorongoro Crater

0730hrs: After breakfast depart Serengeti and drive to Ngorongoro Crater with packed lunch which will be taken as picnic. Descend into the crater in the afternoon for a crater tour and later ascend and drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Known as ‘eighth wonder of the world’ the Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s best-known wildlife arenas. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it offers a unique biosphere, which has remained virtually unchanged since the dawn of time. Deep within the Crater, enclosed by towering walls, some 25,000 large mammals wander the plains, lakes and forests of ‘the land that time forgot’, dominated by enormous bull elephants, rhinos and lions.

DAY 12: Arusha – End of Safari

0900hrs: After a leisurely breakfast depart Ngorongoro and drive to Arusha Coffee Lodge for lunch. The afternoon will be spent leisurely with a short tour of the Arusha Town before you are transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport with a farewell dinner at KIA Lodge before checking in and boarding your homebound flight.
